Lou
Gehrig's Disease (ALS)
ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known
as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive and fatal neuromuscular
disease that robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow
and breathe.
ALS can strike anyone. Every 90 minutes someone in
the U.S. is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will
lose their battle against this disease.
My sister-in-law, Amy Gaillard, lost her
grandfather Lester Brown to ALS at the age of 81. He was diagnosed in
2007 and died on May 12, 2008. ALS took away Grandpa Brown's mobility,
independence and hope the last year of his life.
Amy and three other members of Grandpa Brown's
family (Chad Brown, Christopher Brown, and Deb Pearson) will walk as a
team in memory of Lester Brown on September 13, 2008 in the
"Walk Because You Can Walk to Defeat
ALS".
With your help, ALS can get more funding and more
research to find a cure for this disease. Your tax-deductible donations
go directly to the ALS Association and are used locally. Your
contribution will make a difference in the lives of people affected by
ALS.
You can support
Team Lester directly even after the walk in September is over by
visiting their team web page. Or visit the
ALS website, Minnesota Chapter, to make a general donation or get
more information.
Thank you!
